Presented by Warwick Art Gallery
Below you will find answers to the questions we get asked most about the Tree Jumper Exhibition.
A Tree Jumper is an artwork made to fit around the trunk of a tree. We call them "jumpers" because the trees have no leaves in the middle of winter and the idea is for the artwork to keep them warm.
The official Tree Jumper Exhibition and Competition is open to anyone. Each year we receive entries from artists, community groups, businesses, schools and everyday folk from near and far.
Yes. The registration fee of $20 covers the cost of insurance and security for the exhibition during the festival.
We have an optional theme each year. Around 50% of entrants join in with the theme. We encourage originality and creativity, so it is not compulsory to do the theme. This year's theme is CASCADE.
You will receive a tree allocation package shortly after submitting your registration form. This will include the number of your allocated tree, a map to assist you in locating your tree, and further important information.
Participants generally prefer to start working on their tree jumper after receiving their tree allocation so that they can view and measure their tree first. If you are unable to visit your tree in the lead up to the exhibition and would like to know the measurements of your tree, please get in touch with the Gallery.
Tree allocations work on a first in, first served basis. If you would like a particlar tree, it is strongly recommended that you submit your registration form as early as possible. There is space on your registration form to request a particular tree. Requests are taken into consideration but not guaranteed.
Please note: Just because you were allocated a particular tree last year, it does not mean that this tree will be automatically reserved for you this year.
The purpose of the exhibition has always been to reinvigorate the Warwick CBD and assist CBD businesses. As a result, CBD businesses receive first preference for the tree in front of their shop if they register before 28 January 2025.
Jumpers and Jazz in July is promoted as a yarnbombing festival, therefore we encourage you to use yarn when creating your tree jumper.
You are however also permitted to use other materials. For example, some participants like to be creative with recycled materials.
Please refrain from using laminated plastic elements as they often blow away and end up in our streets and gutters.
Items such as masks, toys, bodies and heads are targets for vandalism and theft and should be avoided.
Please do not use any materials such as nails or staples that will damage the tree.
Winter is very windy, so we discourage the use of fragile, dangling elements as they often get blown away or damaged by the wind. Please keep this in mind when creating your artwork.
Yes. Tree jumpers must not be installed higher than 2 metres from the ground. Tree jumpers that exceed this height limit will not be eligible for the competition.
The purpose of a tree jumper is to warm the trunk of the tree, therefore your artwork should focus on the trunk of the tree.
Tree jumpers must not infringe on the health and safety of yourself or others at any time during installation or when the artwork is being viewed by the public.
Tree jumper installation day is Wednesday 17 July, 2024. If you are unable to install your tree jumper, Warwick Art Gallery personnel can install it for you. Please contact us in advance to make arrangements if you require assistance in installing your artwork.
Each year, Warwick Art Gallery invites a different independent judge to adjudicate.
Everyone who participates in the exhibition is eligble for the competition provided that they have returned all relevant paperwork and adhere to the terms and conditions of entry.
This year, there are different awards and prizes up for grabs.
