7815 Me Myselfie and I On Tour branding LANDSCAPE COL CROP

Tuesday 3rd - Saturday 14th April (Excluding Sunday 8 and Monday 9th )

A program of exciting free hands-on activities encouraging children to explore ideas around self and identity will tour to 90 venues across Queensland and the Torres Strait from January to April 2018, including Warwick Art Gallery during the April school holidays from 3 to 14 April. The program offers seven different activities incorporating hands on art play, video and an interactive computer activity as well as a keepsake booklet, Little Book of Me that encourages children to explore different ways of thinking about and creating self-portraits.

Since 1998, the Children’s Art Centre has worked with more than 250 Australian and international contemporary artists. Through collaboration with artists, the Children’s Art Centre helps children engage with contemporary cultures and experience different ways that artists approach their work.

This project is supported by Gina Fairfax through the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art Foundation, and is presented in association with the exhibition ‘Me, Myselfie and I’ at the Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane.

DSC00452Cartoon Drawing with Phil Judd

Wednesday 11 April

We are thrilled to welcome Phil Judd back to Warwick for one day during these school holidays. Phil’s previous cartoon drawing workshops were completely booked out. He has a great way of working with young people and has worked as a professional cartooninst for many years. Phil’s business Comic-Express is based in Brisbane and he is usually booked throughout the school holidays so we are very fortunate to have him travel to Warwick.

Every workshop introduces attendees to professional equipment. Every class involves step by step process to teach basic concepts that are then used by the attendees to create their own original cartoons. Above all attendees are encouraged to have fun and enjoy the workshops.

Workshop 1: Cute and Crazy Pets 10.00 am to 11.30 am

In this workshop we look at how to draw both Cute and Crazy looking pets, such as dogs, cats, birds, fish and any other pets suggested by the class. We create some truly zany characters. The workshop includes drawing with the teacher, step by step with the children creating their own original pet characters. We cover all the details of what makes a character look either cute or crazy. These ideas can then be used by the children in their drawings in the group.

This workshop also covers professional cartooning techniques e.g. inking in and speech balloons.

Workshop 2: Create your own Cartoon Dragon 12.30 pm to 2.00 pm

In this workshop, the children will learn how to draw fun cartoon Dragons using basic shapes. They will get the opportunity to create their own Dragon character using the cartooning concepts taught in the workshop. They will also have the opportunity to create a name for their character and details about it for stories and comics.

This workshop also covers professional cartooning techniques e.g. inking in and speech balloons.

Workshop 3: Cute Manga Monsters 2.30 pm to 4.00 pm

Do you love Pokémon, Manga and Anime characters? And you like anything cute?
This workshop combines all these for the participants to create your own Cute Manga Monsters. You learn step by step how to put together your own Cute Manga style monster from scratch. Along the way we cover creating a character profile, adding cartoon elements like speech balloons and inking the final drawing.

The workshop is fun and teaches skills that the participant can use in any sort of cartooning!
